The Autumn colours are really beautiful, I look out of the office window (the part that isn’t covered with rampaging foliage) and pray that we do not have such a harsh winter as last year. Don’t get me wrong, I love snow ….for about a week and then I have had enough of it.  Winter for country people can be a bit of an endurance test.
All is quiet in the yard.  One of our young horses is able to undo the gate, so we tied it up….she still got out so we have put a chain/lock on.  Honestly I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes!  Feel guilty now as I was convinced the owner hadn’t shut it property each time.
A whole bunch of new calves came last month into our Quarantine unit.  Its nice to have the place full, an empty calf shed is a little depressing.  I have sorted out the endless licensing saga having been transferred from Gloucester to Exeter to Truro and being told by the AQU specialist that he ‘thought’ we had the correct paperwork…I just need to KNOW we have!
Our house is almost finished and ready for sale.  Its been a long haul and although we are pleased with the result I am mighty glad to be getting back to the day job of farming and horses.  Building work is out of my comfort zone.
All the hoses are rugging up day and night and coming into a warm stable, the odd warm day has really caught us out.
Our woodland should be fenced soon ready for school parties with a forest school leader.  I was sad to hear of FWAG (farming and wildlife advisory group) going into administration.  They have helped us several times and I found their advice really useful.  At a time when we are all becoming so aware of environmental matters its a shame not to have that support.
One of our ladies has a business making bespoke horse gear and stuff like wellie warmers….which my spell checker keeps changing to ‘willy warmer’, as I said to her, there is still a marketing opportunity there.
